Tomato Cart – the new generation of eCommerce

By admin | 1 comment

1

TomatoCart is a new and distinctive open source shopping cart solution. It is forked from osCommerce 3 as a separate project and is free to use and modify. From a technical viewpoint, it employs Web2.0 technology such as Ajax and Rich Internet applications (RIAs) in order to provide users with a system of its own.

The web desktop application is totally different from traditional web pages. Traditional web pages use plain HTML which only supports limited graphic control and takes several pages to finish one complicated task. The page-to-page loading time does really lower down efficiency. Even though using Ajax could improve the efficiency a little, it might not satisfy the increasing demands of customers for high efficiency.

Tomato Cart’s application mimics the user experience of desktop Operating System, offering features and applications similar to a PC environment. As such, it is fairly easy for both beginners and professionals to get acquainted with it, and even master it. Additionally, it supports multi-window operations and that enables users to work with several modules simultaneously.

Jira is a very powerful tool and can be used as defect tracking system as well as planning tool for Agile projects. In this article, I will describe some interesting ways in which Jira can be configured and improve your productivity – with respect to defect tracking systems. Like many tools, Jira provide you capabilities and how you use it to increase your productivity is up to you.
Lets start with project categories. When you login in to Jira, in the top left corner there are two links for Project and Project Categories. Using project category you can define how projects should be categorized. For example, you might want to categorize projects based on – whether they are being dealt by Team A or Team B, whether its a new development or ongoing maintenance and so on.

Firefox is one of the most important browser for testers working in web application domain. Specially, with all the add-ons around it, Firefox is certainly essential for testing web applications. Over a period of time, I have used plenty of add-ons to test various web applications. Following list of add-ons are extremely useful for testing web applications. There are add-ons useful for security testing, analyzing page source, accessibility, debugging and pretty much everything you need for web application testing. You can certainly enhance your productivity using some of these add-ons.
1. Firesizer 0.92
Provides a menu and status bar to resize the window dimensions to a specific size. This add-on is extremely useful if you want to test how your application will look in different size windows.

2. W3C Page Validator 3.0.0
This little add-on validates a page using the W3C Markup Validation Service. Depending on your context, if your organization is committed to create W3C compliant web applications, this might be very handy.

3. SQL Injection 1.2
This is an excellent tool to help developers in identifying SQL injection vulnerabilities. This add-on transform checkboxes, radio buttons and select elements to an input text box.

Adobe BrowserLab: cross browser and platform testing intr-un singur browser

By admin | 1 comment

Ever since the times of Netscape and the early Internet Explorer versions we have been discussing useful cross browser testing setups. I’ve seen through my career as (web-)developer, tech lead, test lead, project manager and account manager very different setups of addressing the issue of different behaviors of webpages and applications in different browsers because of different maturity levels of the software and different sets of standards and their interpretation implemented. Those include multi screen setups, two or more computers next to each other and virtualization on local or remote machines. I think one of the most popular setups by the way is to ignore cross platform and brower and hope for all on the team to only use standards that are well supported. ;) Ever since the native support of Windows on the (Intel) Mac platform a lot of us have settled with a local virtualization engine on Mac OS that allows you to run most of the browsers and platforms out there today. It still sometimes remains cumbersome to connect all those machines to the dev environment that you are working on and keeping those environments up to date with virus protection and software support.

After all those years Adobe is now finally coming up with something really useful: Adobe BrowserLab.

BrowserLab provides web designers exact renderings of their web pages in multiple browsers and operating systems, on demand. BrowserLab is a powerful solution for cross-browser compatibility testing, featuring multiple viewing and comparison tools, as well as customizable preferences. Since BrowserLab is an online service, it can be accessed from virtually any computer connected to the web. Also, Adobe Dreamweaver® CS4 software users have access to additional functionality such as testing local and active content.

It is currently free to use, but the offering is limited and I guess Adobe will ask some money for this over time, especially when adding additional platforms and browsers.

As of today the service supports

  • Firefox 2.X and 3.X (Windows XP and Mac OS X)
  • Internet Explorer 6.X and 7.X (Windows XP)
  • Safari 3.X (Mac OS X)

With Dreamweaver CS4, BrowserLab adds the ability to test local content and different states of interactive pages.

See details on the labs page here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/browserlab/, the service is available here: https://browserlab.adobe.com/

synkia.ro : fa-ti back-up gratuit la telefon

By admin | 3 comments

OpenSTA test tool review

By george | 1 comment

logo-opensta-org OpenSTA (Open System Testing Arhitecture) este un tool de testare automata construit in jurul lui CORBA si are ca scop principal rularea de “load tests” peste HTTP si HTTPs si masurarea performantelor acestor teste. In acest articol ne propunem sa face un scurt review al acestui tool, in speranta ca il veti gasi util necesitatilor voastre.

Lucrul care m-a atras in a-i face un review este bineinteles faptul ca e “free”, adica nu costa nimic :) si sincer mi se pare un tool destul de puternic desi are cateva limitari pe care le vom sublinia in randurile ce urmeaza.
