Adobe BrowserLab: cross browser and platform testing intr-un singur browser

1Ever since the times of Netscape and the early Internet Explorer versions we have been discussing useful cross browser testing setups. I’ve seen through my career as (web-)developer, tech lead, test lead, project manager and account manager very different setups of addressing the issue of different behaviors of webpages and applications in different browsers because of different maturity levels of the software and different sets of standards and their interpretation implemented. Those include multi screen setups, two or more computers next to each other and virtualization on local or remote machines. I think one of the most popular setups by the way is to ignore cross platform and brower and hope for all on the team to only use standards that are well supported. 
Ever since the native support of Windows on the (Intel) Mac platform a lot of us have settled with a local virtualization engine on Mac OS that allows you to run most of the browsers and platforms out there today. It still sometimes remains cumbersome to connect all those machines to the dev environment that you are working on and keeping those environments up to date with virus protection and software support.
After all those years Adobe is now finally coming up with something really useful: Adobe BrowserLab.
BrowserLab provides web designers exact renderings of their web pages in multiple browsers and operating systems, on demand. BrowserLab is a powerful solution for cross-browser compatibility testing, featuring multiple viewing and comparison tools, as well as customizable preferences. Since BrowserLab is an online service, it can be accessed from virtually any computer connected to the web. Also, Adobe Dreamweaver® CS4 software users have access to additional functionality such as testing local and active content.
It is currently free to use, but the offering is limited and I guess Adobe will ask some money for this over time, especially when adding additional platforms and browsers.
As of today the service supports
- Firefox 2.X and 3.X (Windows XP and Mac OS X)
- Internet Explorer 6.X and 7.X (Windows XP)
- Safari 3.X (Mac OS X)
With Dreamweaver CS4, BrowserLab adds the ability to test local content and different states of interactive pages.

Cross Browser Testing folosind SuperPreview

Fiecare web developer sau tester de azi se confruntă cu provocarea de a verifica compatibilitatea site-ului într-o mare variație de browsere si versiuni de browser existente pe piaţă.
Până în prezent, fie ai putea instala fiecare browser și verifica site-ul printr-o inspecţie vizuală şi depanare cu instrumente specializate pentru acel browser, sau ai putea trimite un URL de la o terţă parte (serviciu de screenshotting) ca BrowserShots pentru o inspecţia vizuală completa.
Microsoft vine in ajutorul nostru si lanseaza SuperPreview, o componenta a viitorului Expression Web 3.
SuperPreview ca instrument vă permite să comparaţi diferite engine-uri de browser unificate într-o singură interfaţă. Simple clicuri vă oferă comparaţii între Internet Explorer 6, versiunea nativa de Internet Explorer instalată, alte browsere posibil instalate pe plan local – Firefox 3.5, Safari 3, Safari 4 – şi chiar imagini bitmap din site-ul de prototipuri.

Litmus este un tool de testare cross-browser ce ia capturi de ecran din site-urile web si returneaza rezultatele aproape instantaneu.
Spre deosebire de alte sisteme de acest gen, Litmus testeaza de asemenea si HTML email. Suporta o lista impresionanta de 23 de browsere si 16 clienti de mail.
Acesta pune un accent pe testarea continuă şi organizare şi vă permite să ţină evidenţa tuturor testelor, marcarea, atunci când o pagină a trecut sau nu a reuşit într-un browser, astfel încât să puteţi controla ceea ce are nevoie de muncă de pe site-ul web.
De asemenea, publica rapoarte publice despre browser-ul de web sau clientul de e-mail, de compatibilitate a produselor pe care le puteţi arăta clienţilor. Capturile de ecran sunt livrate în ambele ferestre şi tot ecranul format (astfel încât să puteţi vedea ceea ce vor vedea vizitatorii).

Ce este Browsershots?
Browsershots creează capturi de ecran a paginii tale web în diferite browsere. Este un serviciu online, gratuit şi open-source, creat de către Johann C. Rocholl. În momentul în care trimiţi o adresa web, ea va fi adăugată într-o coadă. Un număr de computere repartizate vor deschide pagina ta web în browser-ul lor. Apoi ele vor captura imagini ale ecranului şi le vor încărca pe acest server central.
Acesta simuleaza un numar foarte mare de browsere impartite pe diferite distributii ale sistemelor de operare:
